Roger and Dorothy Baxter began the Select partnership in 1995 following a long career in the UK Independent Boarding sector. For Roger, a lectureship in Applied Mathematics at the University of Sheffield preceeded an independent school teaching career and the post of 'Undermaster' at Winchester College, arguably the most academic of all of the UK's 'full boarding' schools. The Headship of Sedbergh School, another top boarding school with a long & historical tradition, occupied most of the next 14 years. During the Winchester years, Dorothy combined looking after a young family with running the Physics Department at St Swithun's School, another boarding school with impeccable academic credentials. Then followed a career as 'full time Headmaster's wife'. Watching the children grow up in their own separate boarding environments provided insights into the function of other schools, then came work as an Inspector on the HMC panel of School Inspectors for mathematics, physics, music and boarding, ensuring familiarity with many more.

A rolling programme of visits to schools on the Select Education register ensures Roger and Dorothy are factually up to date and in tune with the schools.
